So many times, many people often think religion is a separate entity, politics is a separate entity and
other entities are separate entities, so each entity should face its business. But they have also forgotten
that, it is not possible, these entities in the society are inseparable. They can't survive in isolation to one
another.
I was trained as a sociologist in Obafemi Awolowo University. In one of our many theories "Functionalism" According to the theory of functionalism, it is believed that, society is made up of so many parts or elements, all these parts or elements are working together for the whole or the ideal or the sanity of the society. The elements according to the theory means, all the institutions (religion, politics, family, education and others) that made up the society; what affect one affects all. This means, all institutions are interrelated or interconnected. None can perform independent function. That was why could see that, when Covid-19 came, not only government closed down, religion as well closed
down, education closed down, everything closed down, it is of a truth that, they are interconnected.
Recently, I had a chat with a Master graduate, also a senior colleague, he openly said, Pastors are not
supposed to interfere in political matters, they are supposed to focus on the word only, meaning they
have no correlations. Now, if they have no correlation and they are to perform independent function,
then religious leaders should not have adhered to the directive of the federal government, because they
are not interrelated, but they are. That is not possible anyways, because what affect one affects all
according to the theory above (functionalism). I strongly believe that, if we emphasis on independency,
we should then not listen to one another in the society!
God has many ways of correcting people. David was a King in Israel, after collecting the wife of one of his servants, and didn't want the matter to be exposed, he sets up that servant, and was killed, and this act was evil before God. When God was going to rebuke David, he sent a Prophet to David to put him back on track. The same thing happened between Ahab and Elijah. From the time of old, wise and successful leaders always sort God through Prophet. Now look, why didn't God send one of his servants to him torebuke him (David), No, God sent a prophet to do the job. God is interested in politics as much as he's interested in religion. It is either he sent you there directly or use you as a messenger.
The often criticism against Bishop Oyedepo and other Ministers involved in political matters by
ignoramuses is condemnable and quite unfortunate on their part. Ignorance can make you think you are
doing the wrong thing, while you actually doing the right thing. These people need light. Bishop
Oyedepo and other Ministers in this country are the territorial commanders. Their fear could not make
government do otherwise. We should thank them for their presence in this generation especially in
Nigeria. We have evil set if people government, but God has set them their to stand for us.
In conclusion, God is more interested in politics in the same manner as he is interested in religion, your
religion not withstanding. Before Donald Trump came to power, God spoke through his servant in
America, and it came to pass.
